Hotel Stiegl

A hotel with a history

The Hotel Scala Stiegl has a long and fascinating history

This hotel in Bolzano was originally a tavern and exchange station for postal service carriages. The hotel has been run by the Trafojer family since 1850, and they are still the owners today.

In 1898, this family rebuilt the hotel in Bolzano as a health resort, choosing a charming Art Nouveau style for the façade. This hotel in Bolzano is still comprised of two buildings, which are separated by a large park.

The annexe was badly damaged by bombing during World War II and was never rebuilt. During this period, the hotel was used as headquarters by the various military contingents stationed in Bolzano.

In addition to its distinctive Art Nouveau façade, this hotel in Bolzano has preserved intact the small wood-panelled 1920s farmhouse kitchen, the large dining room, painted by Rudolf Stolz in 1925 with frescos depicting the cycle of months, and the centuries-old trees that characterise the hotel’s park.
